Question : I want to know about Anti-matter. Can you clarify me about its existence. How can it be utilized to develop the modern era? By Samip Neupane
Answer:
In the extensive field of particle physics antimatter is the extension of the concept of the antiparticle to matter. Antimatter is composed of antiparticles in the same way that normal matter is composed of particles. For example, a positron (the antiparticle of the electron or e+) and an antiproton (p) can form an antihydrogen atom in the same way that an electron and a proton form a normal matter hydrogen atom. Furthermore, mixing matter and antimatter can lead to the annihilation(destruction) of both in the same way that mixing antiparticles and particles does, thus giving rise to high-energy photons (gamma rays) or other particle–antiparticle pairs.
There is considerable speculation as to why the observable universe is apparently almost entirely matter, whether there exist other places that are almost entirely antimatter instead, and what might be possible if antimatter could be harnessed. At this time, the apparent asymmetry of matter and antimatter in the visible universe is one of the greatest unsolved problems in physics. The process by which this asymmetry between particles and antiparticles developed is called baryogenesis.
Antimatter-matter reactions have practical applications in medical imaging, such as positron emission tomography (PET). In positive beta decay, a nuclide loses surplus positive charge by emitting a positron (in the same event, a proton becomes a neutron, and neutrinos are also given off). Nuclides with surplus positive charge are easily made in a cyclotron and are widely generated for medical use.
Similarly this concept can be used for providing energy to a larger level as it gives rise to a high energy photons.

Sir, I find it quite intriguing how antimatter rose up as a concept itself. I mean, it is quite difficult to visualize antiparticles and how they would exist. I don't get how this concept comes up. I guess I will have to do more research, but it is just something that came on my heart so I wanted you to know. Well, the post is helpful but it doesn't really answer WHAT antimatter is, you just said it is composed of antiparticles. I wish there could be a more precise definition. Thank you
Who 1st proposed theory of antimater
William Hicks was first to use the concept of anti matter(negative gravity).Arthur Schuster was the first person to use the term antimatter.
Recent (as of January 2011) research by the American Astronomical Society has discovered antimatter originating above thunderstorm clouds. This is the first time antimatter has been observed occurring naturally on Earth.
Is this true?? Is antimatter naturally present on earth? how? here's the link:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12158718
